Limited access to the topic

There was a need to make limited access to the topic. Is it possible?

For example, there are 10 people who need to be given access to only one topic in the community.

Thank you in advance

The only way to do this that I can think of, is to create a new category for the topic and then grant the 10 users a role that allows them access to that category.

Hi,

yes, Drew gave the correct answer here.

The biggest reason is also the user experience: How does a user know that a topic is only visible to him/her? It could cause confusion and questions from users who do not have access (e.g. when a user with access shares the link).

If you have a dedicated category with limited access then users will know that they are in a "hidden" area.

Can you share more info about the context? Maybe we can help in a different way?

I created new category http://prntscr.com/mqezpd with several topics, and for one of these topics, for example, FAQ http://prntscr.com/mqf0lt should only see a certain number of people whom I add.

P.S This section is available only to moderators and users with the custom role http://prntscr.com/mqf1zc

If it is impossible to restrict access to topics, maybe then is it possible for subsections?

This won't work, unfortunately. You cannot limit access to a single piece of content within a category. All content within a category always has the same access permissions.

What you can do:

  • Create a Custom User Role "FAQ Reader" (or any other name)
  • Add these 10 users to this role
  • Create a category "FAQ for 10 users" (or any other name)
  • limit the access to the Custom User Role you just created
  • Now only the 10 users can see and access this category and all the content inside

Hi,

yes, as Bjoern has explained, this is not possible like this.

I would do the same as Bjoern. If you share the link with the retailers, most of them will not even realize that they are in a different category.

I understand that this is not the ideal solution for you, I will take this feedback with me and discuss it with the product team. Maybe this is something we can improve in the future.

Julian
